RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
I highly recommend booking ASAP for this trip as WigWam is the most popular resort up there and it will fill up very quickly once IDO, FM, LSF, UMO, etc announce their sturgeon dates.

Even if your on the fence about this trip, call and book a cabin. At least you'll have a reservation. You have 30 days prior to the trip to cancel..

When booking, tell them your with RochesterOutdoors.net and you'd like to be near my cabin if possible.

Also, let me know if you want to be on the email chains regarding this trip.

A good deal on circle hooks. Last year I ran all 5/0 hooks, but I know many dudes run 6/0. I couldn't resist buying a pack.

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
Another motivator... Last year was our "worst" year of fishing (due to weather and record melt/runoff flooding) and our group caught 7 fish over 60" and over 35 fish > 50" (for those that don't know, a trophy sturgeon is 50")

These aren't St. Croix supermodel versions either. LOTW sumo versions.

Sorry fellas, I'll be in Mexico signing my life away. . . .
As much fun as it sounds to be cuddled up in a boat full of dudes on a cold Canadian river, it takes a distant 2nd to warm sun, cold beer, good cigars, palm trees, marlin/tuna/dorado, and tequila induced blowjobs on the white sandy beaches of the sea of cortez. . .

Are there any open seats that come available? I think this looks awesome but I do not own a boat.

Cant say for sure right now but I may have an open spot with my Dad and I. Depends on if my uncle comes and if my father in law brings his boat. The cabin were in for sure has 1, 2 if my uncle backs out, open beds.

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
One thing to remember about this trip... You don't need to bring a 19' $20K Ranger up. Basically any boat would suffice. Quite a few duck hunting boats up there. Maybe not out on the bay when she's windy, but they are all over the river. 15HP 14' little boats... Horsing in huge fish. AA and I saw a sturgie tournie happening a couple years back. Serious anglers.... with un-serious boats. Nearly all of our fishing happens with 1 mile of the ramp. With smaller getups, you just need to be a little more cautious with wind (in the bay), excessive current (like last years record flooding), and larger debris (trees and ice bergs).

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
Where that tournament was, I wouldn't even think of running 19' Ranger. Depth was <4ft for 90% of that run.

Awesome deal on those hooks, but a bit misleading for the newbies. Tackle wise you very literally need about 3 swivels and 3 hooks for the entire trip (sinkers are provided by the group.)

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
We lost 1 hook/sinker setup last year with 5 guys. We caught the lost anchor an hour later and got the hook/swivel back.

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
Just got an email from "Wiggy" (man I like how they are on top of things). 5 of the available 12 cabins have booked. Of those remaining 7 cabins a few of them are way back in the woods well away from the rest of the group (and lodge). Like I mentioned before, even if your "on the fence" about going this year I'd recommend booking a cabin very soon, then canceling (30+ days prior to the trip) if you cannot make it work.

Let me know once your booked.

You guys will love the Wigwam... very nice people. This is where we stay when we go ice fishing. Which is coming up very soon if anyone is interested.

Yesterday, I knew nothing... Today, I know that!

Earl, you need to cash in your ice trip token for the S.E. I'd even fill up one of your seats for ya.

RE: 2012 Sturgeon Excursion
IDO has (or will be announcing very soon) that they will be up there during the same weekend as us. As long as everyone gets their cabin booked, this is kinda a good thing. Very likely a band both Fri and Sat nights, plus we can bounce reports/stories off of those guys.

Alrighty boys, all our group has booked and just in time. IDO just announced their dates and it's the same weekend as we will be there. Still room for others too book. All it takes is a phone call (right now).
